Hi sacredstruggler, Ishmael is a good subject to cover. It really speaks of man doing things according to the flesh as opposed to the spirit. God told Abram that he and Sari would have a child which would be blessed and this heir would produce the Messiah. Abram tried to speed up God's plan by himself with the help of his wife Sari with Hagar her maidservant and thus ishmael was born. God kept His promise and blessed Ishmael as God said he would blessed Abram seed. However the real heir had to come from Sari and Abram for which the had to wait a few more years for. Man always tries to speed things up and causes problems. Thanks Raymond
